For all of you artists who use water-based paints to manifest your artistic expression on paper, this blog will be of little interest to you.
The artists I'm talking to are the oil-based painters, particularly the ones whose hands wind up looking like a tie-dyed work of art after a very creative afternoon of painting.
Many of you oil painters may wonder how to get the paint off your hands without using harsh chemicals. Before reaching for the turpentine, try rubbing your hands with butter and letting it sit a minute. The oil in the butter will make it more difficult for the paint to adhere to your skin. Once you've let it sit a minute, then try washing your hands with warm water and dish soap. If you have some citrus cleaner handy (the kind with the gritty texture works best), you may want to give that a try as well.
Obviously the sooner you can get the paint off your hands the better. It's always a good idea to try a more natural and less irritating approach to paint removal. Your skin will thank you for it.
