Creating Restful Space to Create
When people visit my studio they often remark on how restful & relaxing they find it to be. My goal as an art teacher is to create a refuge from the hurry of Silicon Valley where true creativity can emerge unhurried and unforced.
Building a skill takes time & vulnerability & the ability to relax & feel safe, so I try to create a space that facilitates that.
To that end, I play music that relaxes the mind and lets the students sink into their work so that their best ideas flow.
Over time so many students have remarked that they love coming to learn & get in the "zone" which is why I call my studio Karen's Art Zone!
If your child needs a safe place to unwind & learn this is the right studio for you!

The Classical Art Education
As a teacher, I approach teaching art from a classical perspective. Although we do learn specific techniques and styles, I try to always link it to the larger picture.
Art history does not exist in an isolated way, but a reflection of the history, science, music, and philosophy of a specific period of time.
In my studio your child will always be learning about more than just art! We might be drawing geese but we will definitely be talking about migration and geography and any other number of subjects that are related. If you have a curious kid, this may be a studio they would enjoy very much!
The other part of a classical education is that in addition to having fun, we're also trying to cultivate some real skill in terms of technique. If your child is geared toward mastery this studio may also be a great fit.
